Unfortunately, because I followed a guide to reset Windows Update and therefore delete CatRoot2 and SoftwareDistribution, I've lost all history of what updates were installed previously that might be breaking things. Every time I reboot I get the "Configuring Updates" screen - so SOMETHING is clearly stuck and has completely killed Windows Update. Have also tried the Windows Update Troubleshooting Tool - fails to fix. SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro has completed.
